Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

HOW DO I USE iQUANT.pro MODELS?

Keep it simple!

iQUANT.ca promotes a “Keep it Simple” investment approach by providing turn-key investment models and portfolios to Investment Professionals only.  Every month you will receive an email that will show the most current selections for each model and portfolio. These reports will also be available on the Members page.

Although our models and portfolios select their holdings on an equal-weight basis, it would be unreasonable to believe we can maintain a perfect equal weighting every time you re-constitute or re-balance your portfolios. Our Models are meant to be guides and don’t require such strict adherence.

Ideally, you will take the most current model selections and populate them into your portfolio re-balancing tool on a monthly (or seasonal quarter) basis - depending on the model(s).

If you are able, we recommend utilizing a Time-Weighted Average Price (TWAP) algorithm when re-constituting and re-balancing. This is not a requirement however.

What is the difference between “Re-balance” and “Re-constitute”?

Rebalancing refers to adjusting the weights of the constituent securities in a portfolio, index, or model. Reconstitution is the process of changing the constituent securities.

WHAT DO I GET WITH A SUBSCRIPTION?

iQUANT.ca will not bombard you with the trivial. We understand the value of time, so we only send relevant information.

With an iQUANT.ca subscription, you get the following (via email and the Members Page):

Each Monday you will receive a Weekly Performance Report that summarizes the performance of each iQUANT.ca model and each model’s holdings.

Each month you will receive a report outlining each models’ current holdings. This is sent prior to the Open of the 1st trading day of each month to give you time to update your re-balancing tool.

In addition, we provide monthly Economic and Market commentary on our Members page.

To help you build efficient portfolios of iQUANT.ca investment models as well as various asset classes and style boxes, we offer the very robust iQUANT.ca Portfolio Optimizer.

WHAT IS A “SEASONAL QUARTER”?

In an attempt to take advantage of potential seasonal anomalies, many iQUANT.ca models reconstitute on a “seasonal quarter” basis - which is the first trading day of every February, May, August and November.

WILL YOU CHANGE A MODEL IF IT IS NOT WORKING HERE AND NOW?

NEVER…

No matter how good a model, it will under-perform its peers at some point in time - this is why we recommend combining LOW-CORRELATED models.

Our members rely on us to be consistent and stable; therefore, we will not make changes based on the drama of market swings.

Be realistic and reasonable. Don’t expect an iQUANT.ca equity model to be positive when stocks are under severe duress. Manage your clients’ expectations properly.

For help combining models, please try our Portfolio Optimizer under the Advisor Resources menu tab.
